Modern Stone Tools is a minimal design collection created by Israel-based designers Ami Drach and Dov Ganchrow. The collection was presented at the 2012 Budapest Design Week that revists humanity’s oldest artifacts in a modern context. It demonstrates the advancement of human society by coupling the contrasting ancient, man-made stone objects with modern machine-made handles.
This experimental exploration of the realm of tool-making looks into a time where humans used stones and flint tools to survive over a million years ago. Through a method of three dimensional scanning and printing, these ancient artifacts are digitally outfitted with custom-designed handles – encapsulating the stone’s uneven form with a perfectly enclosed case.
